RATS Version 8.2

Postby moderator » Tue Sep 25, 2012 12:26 pm

RATS Version 8.2 is now available for Windows. You can read more about it below or in the September newsletter (http://www.estima.com/newslett/September2012RATSLetter.pdf).

The update from 8.0 or 8.1 to 8.2 is on a CD with the new executables, examples and procedures and updated PDF documentation. If you have a current update subscription, we will be sending your update automatically (by post). If you have version 8.x but don't have an update subscription, you can either buy the update subscription (which will give you all updates through version 9.0) which would start you with version 8.2 or you can buy the single update to 8.2 for $25. Updates to 8.2 from versions of RATS before 8.0 include a new set of printed manuals as well if you choose boxed product rather than electronic delivery.

This new version has almost twenty full new example programs, and dozens of new and updated procedures. The biggest improvements have been in the handling of procedures, with a new ability to set more than one "search" path for procedures, allowing you to have an experimental or local collection while leaving the originals unchanged, and an "Update Procedures" menu item which will pull updated procedures off our web site. Among the other changes:

  • expanded graphing capabilities including the ability to specify an exact graph size, an easier way to graph arrays of series, and a new instruction for automatically saving graphs
  • new options on SUMMARIZE that make it easier to examine non-linear functions of estimated parameters, including non-linear estimation parameters, and to use numerical rather than analytical derivatives to deal with functions for which RATS has no analytical derivatives
  • a new option on FIND for doing grid searches, which is particularly useful for threshold models
  • support for some additional multivariate GARCH models, as well as more flexible handling of asymmetric effects
  • a new "Cointegration Tests" wizard
  • two new variable types for more flexible handling of vectors

We have licensed RATS Version 8.2 in Linux but it is not working.

I am getting following error while running ratsx :-

Segmentation fault (core dumped)

But it is working is Batch mode.

Installation procedure that I have followed :

I have downloaded rats820.std.tgz and then run tar command to extract files and folders at
/usr/local/rats folder

# tar zxvf rats820.std.tgz

I found the requisite folders and files extracted as mentioned in
Installation guide. At this stage if I run rats or ratsx then it
gives error : libXm.so.4 not found Then openmotif-2.3.3-5.el6
3.x86_64.rpm is loaded to sort out this library problem.

# cd /usr/lib64
# ls -l libXm.*
lrwxrwxrwx. 1 root root 14 Apr 2 12:22 libXm.so.4 ->
libXm.so.4.0.3 -rwxr-xr-x. 1 root root 2931128 Oct 17 22:16
libXm.so.4.0.3
#

All the .xpm files (there are 48 of
them) are in the same directory as the ratsx/rats/ratsdata executables.

Sometimes it gives following error while running ratsx command.
ratsx -> open -> select any .rpf file in examples folder -> click ok then it displays the following error.
> > > X Error of failed request: BadDrawable (invalid Pixmap or Window

Hence I seek your help to sort out the problem so that it can work in Red Hat Enterprise Linux Client release 6.4 (Santiago).
Thanks.
