We are often asked whether or not we offer discounts for academic users.
The answer is no, we don't (except on multi-user UNIX/Linux/OpenVMS licenses).
The next question is always, why not?
The reason for that is simple: All of our list prices are academic prices. That is, we set our prices with the academic market in mind, as opposed to listing inflated prices and then offering steep discounts to academic users.
So, we could list WinRATS at $695 or $795 and then sell it to academics for $500, but we think the direct approach is simpler.
Yes, we could probably make more money by charging our commercial customers a little extra, but at the expense of making life more complicated for everyone. And we wouldn't make enough extra that we could afford to sell to academics at prices lower than we already do.
As always, please let us know if you have any questions or comments.
Also, please note that we do offer $200 discounts on PC and Mac versions of RATS for full time students. See student discounts for more information.
